From appetizers to desserts, here are 5 foods you must try when visiting the Island of Santorini!

Starters
Santorini Salad – Named after the island itself, order this delicious mix of fresh tomatoes, cucumber, feta, onions, and capers at several different restaurants, as each restaurant puts its own delicious spin on this dish. You won’t find tomatoes any fresher than in Greece!
Olives and Feta Cheese – You cannot go wrong with olives and cheese from Greece! This simple snack was one of my favorites, whether ordering from a restaurant or bringing back some to serve at our Airbnb. For a special treat, drizzle with fresh honey.
Dolomades – This two-bite appetizer is often served cold, using grape leaves stuffed with rice, meat, and fresh herbs and spices. Just like the Santorini salad, every restaurant has its own take on these, so try a variety!
Greek Meatballs (Keftedes) – This Greek dish adds a Mediterranean twist to the traditional Italian meatball. There are many delicious variations of this dish often served with a traditional red sauce.
Mains:
Greek Lamb – if you like to eat meat, lamb in Greece is truly a treat. Often cooked with garlic inside, it’s so tender it will fall off the bone like butter.
Moussaka – Every restaurant we went to recommended we try their Moussaka. This unique dish is similar to lasagna with an eggplant and a tomato base.
Desserts
Baklava – Baklava is a light flaky filo pastry, filled with chopped nuts, and sweetened with honey. Be sure to have some hand wipes or a sink nearby since this dessert is sticky!
Ice Cream Bars – Ok, hear me out, these aren’t traditional Greek food but never have I had such delicious ice cream bars as I have in Greece! These can often be found in a bakery or supermarket in their own freezer. There are a variety of flavors and styles, my favorites were strawberry and cookies. Ask for a box to bring back to your room and try them all!

Breakfast:
Bougatsa – arguably also in the dessert category, this delicious pastry was one of our favorites to order for breakfast with a Freddo coffee (see below). There are a few varieties of this filo pastry, but the custard cream was our favorite.
Freddo Coffee – If you like any kind of coffee with foam, you must experience the freddo cappuccino. The foam is created by a machine that whips the coffee while cold, instead of steamed like a traditional cappuccino. You’ll love mixing the cloudlike fluff in your coffee!
